導演李翰祥繼《梁祝》之後的又一力作。由李翰祥創立的國聯公司與臺灣省電影製片廠合作拍制的歷史巨片，動用港臺兩地精英合作，拍攝勾踐複國的故事。本片在製作及宣傳上不遺餘力，耗資巨大，演職員陣寵大，製作不惜工本。從開鏡到完成，整整歷時十四個月。本片反映的主題有一定的文化統戰，政治宣傳意味濃厚。製作進行期間一波三折，卒於1965年完成。此片曾以上下兩集發行，後剪輯成另一較短版本，主要演員有江青﹑趙雷﹑朱牧﹑洪波等港臺兩地精英。。Sir Robert Chiltern is a successful Government minister, well-off and with a loving wife.
